Kyung Mo Kim graduated from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in 2017 with a Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering. During his Ph.D. course, he carried out wide range of research about nuclear safety and thermal-hydraulics. His research area includes understanding on pool and flow boiling CHF enhancement, quenching heat transfer enhancement, phase change heat transfer inside the heat pipe, deterministic safety assessment using system analysis code, and design of passive safety system. Especially, his research about design of passive in-core cooling system based on hybrid control rod-heat pipe was highlighted as NURETH-16 best paper award in 2015.

From 2017, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research assistant professor for department of nuclear engineering of UNIST, designing and operating transparent micro-integral effect test facility, URI-LO (UNIST Reactor Innovation Loop).

After career from UNIST, Kim came to Virginia Tech and joined the HEATS Lab in March 2021.
